Jamie
Connors - Head Coach
Jamie started his coaching career in St.
Johns and has gradually moved across the
country with stops in Dartmouth, Antigonish, and Saskatoon. He
has 26 years of coaching experience to go along with a Master’s
degree in the Art & Science of Coaching and a teaching degree in
physical education. This is Jamie’s seventh season as Head Coach for the
Calgary Patriots.
Jamie has worked for a number of Calgary clubs over the past 13
years while also traveling with the National Team as an exercise
physiologist. With his Team Canada duties, he’s had stops in
Sydney, Hong Kong, Manchester, and Japan (two trips).
In 2006-07
Jamie was named Swimming Canada and Swim Alberta Coach of the
Year. for performances by Erica Morningstar at World Champs in
Melbourne. Under Jamie’s guidance, the Calgary Patriots
have solidified their position in Calgary and Alberta as one of
the premier age group swim clubs.
Alex Schultze
- Silver 1&2 Squad

Alex joined the Patriot staff after
a number of years of swimming and coaching in Regina. Alex began
his career as a summer swimmer and progressed on to winter
swimming. After the swimming career finished Alex moved into the
coaching ranks with the Regina Optimist Dolphins. Alex is
currently enrolled in the DTCM program at the Canadian Institute
of Traditional Chinese Medicine and working on his NCCP level 3.
Alex is enjoying the challenge of coaching in Calgary and
working with the Patriots.
Amanda Johnson
- Red Squad
Amanda
Johnson is a valued member of the Calgary Patriots family and
has been for the past 16 years. Amanda swam with the club
for many years and has returned to her roots to take an active
role coaching young children in Calgary.
This is Amanda’s 8th year coaching
with the Calgary Patriots, and her 5th year as
coordinator of the Calgary P-Too Program. Currently she is
attending the National Coaching Institute at U of C working to
attain her NCCP coaching level 4 & 5.
Joyce Downey - Black Squad
This
is Joyce's 4th season coaching and her 2nd season with the
Patriots. At the present time Joyce is working on completing
her
Level II. Joyce's love for swimming started at the age of 9 when
she
joined the Foothills Swim Club here in Calgary (now called UCSC)
and swam with them for 5 years finishing up in 1970 at the
National level. Her last position before coming back to
Calgary was as Head Coach of the Sylvan Lake Nauticals.
Joyce looks
forward to a successful season with the Black Squad.
Joanne Roestel
- Grey Squad

This is Joanne’s fourth year with the Patriots coaching staff.
Her personal involvement in swimming began in 1975. She finished
her age group swimming as a member of the UCSC and competed on
the national team for four years. Joanne has developed a love
for the sport not only through her own participation, but also
from watching her son compete. She has extensive experience
coaching successful age group swimmers, NCCP Level II certified
and holds a degree in Finance.
Erik Hogan
- White Squad
This
year Erik starts his second stint as a coach with Patriots to go
along with two swimming stints with the team. Erik has
been active in swimming for over ten years and is focused on
converting his racing experience into excellent coaching.
He brings plenty of energy and excitement to the pool and is
excited to be coaching with the Patriots.
Beth
Chetner - White Squad
This
is Beth's first year coaching with the Calgary Patriots after a
number of years running the CJC portion of the PToo program.
Beth is very excited about coaching with the club and hopes to
bring her vast aquatic experience to a racing environment.
